September is National Literacy Month, and Chatham Literacy will be spreading the word about the importance of literacy in our community. You can help promote literacy by participating in one or all of these fun activities and events.

All you have to do is get involved in at least one of the following ways:
- Share the Message: Buy and wear the 2017 literacy t-shirt.
- Celebrate International Literacy Day: International Literacy Day is September 8th.
- Attend the Fall for Literacy Luncheon: Hear author Cecelia Budd Grimes speak.
- Get in the Swing: Attend the Literacy Swings
- Become a Tutor: Register for the next tutor training October 21st.

Chatham Literacy’s 2017 campaign theme is…
Literacy: never too early! Never too late!
Order a t-shirt now through August and you’ll reap rewards for an entire year. Anyone wearing a 2017 literacy t-shirt to participating businesses on September 8th, International Literacy Day, and on the first Tuesday of each month will receive a discount those days.
Celebrate International Literacy Day
Show that you care about literacy by wearing your literacy t-shirt from noon to 1 p.m. – or all day if you can – on September 8, International Literacy Day.
Snap selfies and group photos of you and your friends wearing your shirts, then email them to Chatham Literacy and we’ll post them on our Facebook page and website. You’ll be entered into a raffle to win a
$25.00 gift card to Pittsboro Roadhouse.
Participating businesses will be offering discounts all day on September 8 to customers wearing their 2017 literacy t-shirts.
Attend the Fall for Literacy Luncheon with Cecelia Budd Grimes!
When:Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Where: Siler City Country Club, 150 Country Club Dr, Siler City, NC 27344 Tickets: $60 per person (tables seat 4, 6, and 8 people)What: An entertaining, fundraising event with delicious food. The keynote speaker will be local Siler City author, Cecelia Budd Grimes.
All proceeds directly fund Chatham Literacy’s free individual and small-group instruction for adult learners.
Everyone who attends will receive Ms. Grimes’ book, What it means to have a Southern Wedding. One person at each table will take home a door prize.

Get in the Swing
You won’t want to miss Chatham Literacy’s new FUNdraiser – Literacy Swings – from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
on September 18 at the Pittsboro Roadhouse. For a $20 donation, you’ll be able to dance to the fabulous sounds of the Triangle Jazz Orchestra a 20-member swing-era band online at www.chathamliteracy.org or by calling 919-621-2265 (before 9:00 pm). Food and drinks are not included with your event donation.Advance registration is required for Literacy Swings and can be made
Dining reservations must be made directly with the Roadhouse at 919-542-2432. The Roadhouse will donate 10% of all event-related food and beverage sales to Chatham Literacy.
Become a Tutor
If you have the time, why wait? Become a tutor for an adult learner; make a difference in your life and that of another person. It’s not too late to register for the last training, Saturday, October 21st from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch provided!
